London based Don’t Be Afraid have just marked their fourth release with the ‘West Acyd Shelter’ EP by Semtek that takes some well known seventies jazz funk as a starting point and rebuilds the hook over some smooth sounding acid techno resulting in ‘a tweaked out bassline stepper’. Meanwhile, the excellent forthcoming four-track ‘Synthetes’ EP from Mr. Beatnick that’s already been getting airplay from Gilles Peterson, Braiden and Dark Sky, ‘plots a fresh trajectory from hip hop to house to disco’ and comes with a remix from Architeq. To celebrate both releases the label is taking over Visions Video Bar on Friday May 27th for party that includes Architeq and Portuguese duo Photonz, as well as Paul White, Bullion and Alex Chase from One-Handed Music.
