Doctrine And Divination

Irish producer Barry Lynn’s output as both Boxcutter and The Host usually has a home on Planet Mu, and while the expansive ‘The Dissolve’ album from the former moved away from Lynn’s dubstep origins and was full of ideas, taking in tech house, juke, jazz, R&B, the juddering percussion was still largely rooted in heavy, low-end dancefloor derivations. On last year’s well received self-titled debut as The Host, vintage gear was utilised to create a spacey, sci-fi interzone anchored by crisp frenetic rhythms, so while it’s a surprise that five new tracks are set to be released on Cosmic Bridge, the intricate melodies and slowfast tempos are a good fit for the label run by Om Unit. Out December 16th, the ‘Gnosis’ EP closes off the label’s output for the year, and comes complete with artwork by Musashi Thoth.
