Love Themes From Forever

We are only a few weeks into a new year, but one of the most eagerly anticipated releases of the coming twelve months around these parts has been the ‘Ghosts Of Then And Now’ album from Manchester producer Ryan Hunn, otherwise known as Illum Sphere. After an initial tease with ‘Sleeprunner’ and ‘Embryonic’, the release has now officially arrived on Ninja Tune and it’s proving to be one of those records that needs to be digested in it’s whole to be fully appreciated, after being deliberately conceived as a full length. The Shigeto featuring ‘Liquesce’ opener sets a scene that takes in ominous atmospheres, industrial edges, big melodies and deep bass resulting in a surprisingly emotive record that’s both divergent and inventive, while wearing it’s influences well. The inclusion of three collaborations with Brooklyn artist Bonnie Baxter aka Shadowbox adds a welcome dimension to the overall feel of things and here’s the title track.
