Like A Bad Penny

The recent association between Asher Levitas from Old Apparatus and writer/visual artist Michael Crowe titled Penny has just seen the release of a self-titled EP on the newly formed Overshare Records. Featuring three inventive tracks of ‘spectral R&B, mutant techno, sombre acid house and technicolor industrial’, it’s been described as ‘a listening experience that outshines most experimental electronic music of today’ and Levitas has more recently put together a mix for Electronic Beats which nicely captures the mindset of the project. Primitive rhythms, subterranean bass and analogue frequencies from the likes of Hieroglypihic Being, Evian Christ, D. Edwards and Perc are included alongside tracks from the aforementioned EP plus something new from the London producer’s Saa collaboration. It’s a sometimes challenging forty minute plus trip, but certainly more engaging than most of the selections out there.
