Reality And Respite

Dutch producer Tomas Roels aka TMSV is probably better known for his percussion driven, bass heavy dubstep on label’s such as Black Box and Artical, but he’s recently been incorporating some different styles into his sound. A case in point is the self-released ‘1988’ EP which features some rolling slow-motion rhythms, interstellar synths and dark atmospheres that wouldn’t be out of place on labels such as Nebula or Cosmic Bridge; so while obvious reference points are the music of Kromestar or Jay5ive, the finely executed productions offer a welcome addition to the sound rather than anything approaching a parody. Purposely retro-leaning, the seven strong collection ranges from the dystopian ambient sounds of the opening title track, the spacey hip hop of  ‘Reality,’ through to the sample-heavy dubby dancefloor lean of ‘Move On’.
