Ascending The Void

As the release date of the ‘Angels & Devils’ album from The Bug draws ever closer on Ninja Tune, we’ve been given another peek at what to expect from Kevin Martin’s follow-up to the acclaimed ‘London Zoo’ long player from several years ago. While Martin, now a resident of Berlin, still draws from that release, the new album has moved on from the dystopian setting of the UK capital, taking in more of a global view for twelve tracks that explore contrasting themes of dark and light. Beginning with some foreboding, dubby, cinematic pieces featuring Liz Harris, Inga Copeland and GonjaSufi, before making way for some darker and dirtier rhythmic assaults with longtime collaborator Flowdan, Justin Broadrick from Goldflesh and Jaisu renown, Manga from Roll Deep, shouty antagonists Death Grips and the legendary Warrior Queen; it’s something that is at once both chaotic and beautiful, both in its inception and execution.
