Beyond The Boundary

Montreal based producer Ghislain Poirier has just released another album under his Boundary moniker which is largely a move further along the opposite musical spectrum to the heavy carnival rhythms he’s known for, going deeper into nocturnal ambience than last year’s self-titled debut under the pseudonym. Described as ‘an imagined sci-fi score’ and recorded in the middle of the night, the evocative minimalism of ‘Still Life’, which channels the spirit of classic ambient and IDM productions, takes in short, sweeping electronic arrangements through to pulsing, minimal techno pieces and was put together to serve as something of an antidote to the sometimes overwhelmingly clamorous nature of modern day life. Poirier explains that during the recording process he was ‘thinking about time, how to get lost in music….I wanted to stretch time with subtleties’ and that ultimately ‘there’s a wall of noise in this world that’s hard to go against…we constantly have things we don’t want to listen to coming at us…this is an album about taking a step back and letting it sink in.’
