Waiting For The Night

Three years on from their acclaimed ‘Routes’ album, London producers LV have got together with Benin City vocalist Joshua Idehen for the fifteen track ‘Islands’ long player on Keysound Recordings. After premiering the new material at a Boiler Room session some weeks back, individual tracks have been steadily dropping over the internet in the run up to this weeks release, which much like it’s predecessor explores themes of urban living in the capital, only this time focusing more on Nigerian born Idehen’s narrative and voice from the viewpoint of a lonely story teller who is ‘always on the outside looking in’. Touching on cheery subjects such as ‘murder, desperate loneliness, obsessions and sexually-unfulfilling nights out’, it’s set against a backdrop of darkly broken beats, mutated african rhythms and deeply weighted bass courtesy of Simon Williams and Will Horrocks, and you might be forgiven for thinking that such deep autobiographical introspection wouldn’t combine to form a cohesive whole, but the result is much more than just a collection of beats and pieces.
