The Air You Breathe

Brooklyn based Air Texture has just released the fourth edition of it’s series of ambient compilations that pair’s two different artists’ selections across two separate discs, and this time around former Emeralds artist Steve Hauschildt alongside Rush Hour producer BNJMN present what the label have called ‘a thoughtful survey in new electronic, modern classical, noise, ambient and synth-based music’. Hauschildt contributes a couple of compositions to his exploration of ambient and drone territory which features music from the likes of Mirror To Mirror, Le Révélateur and Heathered Pearls, and he points out that his far-reaching selection was informed by the fact that although the term has been around almost forty years ‘there still persists a draconian misconception that ambient music is background or wallpaper music’. On the other disc, BNJMN focuses on mutant abstract techno and muddy electronic meditations from artists such as Lukid, Samoyed, Legowelt and Hieroglyphic Being, as well as Vaghe Stelle and Best Available Technology from the Astro:Dynamics stable.
