Mutuality And Modulation

179

Paris and London based Annabelle Guilhem first came to attention as Velour Modular with the release of the exploratory ‘Capsule’ EP last year, when the heavily textured abstract pop and eight-bit techno bleep was described as ‘a bewildering, atmospheric beast…a kind of “black box” that could testify of a lost world’. Deeply informed by classic futuristic sci-fi such as Logan’s Run, Blade Runner, and Space Odyssey, lyrically and thematically, the release contemplated the four stages of living and drew on influences such as numerology, mythology and the poetry of William Blake. Now minus Spanish producer Hektagon, Guilheim has joined forces with acclaimed German beat maker Carsten Aermes aka Phon.O of 50Weapons renown for a handful of new tracks which explore notions of attraction and desire, in particular the idea of the contrasting states of rejection or acceptance. A first taste in the form of ‘Struck’ mixes nicely pitched vocals with rolling, percussive rhythms to form a pleasingly heady mix of left-field electronic pop music.
