Puzzles And Pictures

In our humble little corner of the interweb we normally like to leave the hype to others, but having featured the work of Stuart Howard as Lapalux since his early work on Pictures Music, it’s nice to get in on the bluster surrounding his forthcoming second album for Brainfeeder. Out on April 7th, the thirteen track ‘Lustmore’ loosely explores themes of hypnogogia, a limbo-like state of consciousness between being awake and asleep, and with a purposely sultry and gritty undertone, the other-worldly sound design is heavily influenced by old film soundtracks; as Howard explains ‘whenever I think about the album I think about the bar scene in The Shining’…there’s something about that strange, hallucinatory psychological madness that relates to the music, both in the making of the actual record and the way it sounds’. Focusing on making the album an ‘imaginary visual experience’, the London producer has brought in ideas of imagery and characters, storyline and emotion into his meticulous rhythms and enveloping textures, and is joined by vocalists Andreya Triana and Szjerdene. His debut Pictures release ‘Many Faces Out Of Focus’ is now available on purple vinyl here.
