Folding Into Shapes

Much has already been said about the ‘Joined Ends’ album by Dorian Concept on Ninja Tune, which the label has described as ‘sitting somewhere between a floating lucid dream and a deep trip into a synaesthetic wonderland’. It’s heavy layers, weighty bass lines and fluid synths are a result of the Vienna based artist purposely distancing himself from his usual club sound and trademark MicroKorg, in favour of embracing new analogue gear and production units, in particular a Wurlitzer electric piano. It’s an adeptly handled, widescreen take on his hyper-technicolour brand which has since got some heavyweight remix action courtesy of Kuedo, Nathan Fake and Tim Hecker, and on the eve of his support slot for Cinematic Orchestra at The Roundhouse in London this weekend, he’s let got a mellow track taken from the recording process for last years album.
