Basic Themes And Things

News has been steadily percolating about an upcoming album from Darkstar, since the release of the ‘Kirklees Arcadia’ mixtape provided a couple of snapshots into the direction of the duo’s third long player. With a sound that seemingly always moves on from what has come before while still remaining Darkstar, the twelve tracks that make up ‘Foam Island’ should be a departure from the pastoral, progressive psychedelia of ‘News From Nowhere’, and first taster ‘Pin Secure’ serves as, in the duos own words ‘a good introduction to what we’ve been doing for the past couple of years…and gives us a chance to reset with a sound we have been honing during the recording sessions’. With themes touching on political isolation, social disillusionment and personal ambition, the album is out at the end of September on Warp, who describe it as ‘contemporary electronic-pop interlaced with powerful statements of community, society and hope in the twenty-first century’.
