Fresh from the release of the excellent ‘True Sight’ EP by Danny Scrilla on Cosmic Bridge, label head Jim Coles aka Om Unit is set to launch his own five-track EP at the end of the month. Those familiar with Coles’ previous work on Cosmic Bridge, Metalheadz and Civil Music might know what to expect, but this release is billed as the producers most progressive take on his evolving sound yet, which is the result of, in his own words ‘many studio jams using outboard gear and less rules…applying these almost non-techniques to the 160bpm bass music template’. Space-age dub futurism, frenetic grime and footwork rhythms, rolling and bumping breakbeats, and widescreen downtempo clash over five tracks, one of which ‘Midnight Oil’ features Metalheadz luminary Digital.
